CASEY LANCE BROWN
b. 1978. Asheville, NC, USA.
Casey Lance Brown (b. 1978) is an American lens-based artist who studied at Duke University, Harvard Design School, and as a fellow at the American Academy in Rome. His work often reveals the perverse ways in which human systems use, divide up, and adapt to the planet’s surface. His digital composite imagery results in very large format, expansive scenography which has been exhibited and collected in the U.S., Italy, Russia, UK and Switzerland.
Recent honors include the Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome (2010-2011) and inclusion in The FENCE 2016 exhibited in select cities throughout Georgia. Brown’s work was included in group exhibitions at the Scope Art Fair, Vol. 5 in Miami (2015), Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, CO (2014), Elder Art Gallery in Charlotte, NC (2015), Brick Lane Gallery in London (2015), and the MINT Museum in Atlanta, GA (2016). His work has been awarded in international competitions including International Photo Awards (2015), Fine Art Photography Awards in London (2015) and the Moscow International Foto Awards (2016) in portraiture and landscape/cityscape genres.
Brown also serves as the research director for P-REX, a design think tank at MIT. Current projects include strategies for future mobility with Toyota Research Institute as well as future scenario planning through the Center for Advanced Urbanism. Independently, Brown conducts long-term research concerning securitization of international borderlands supported by the Charles Eliot Traveling Fellowship and the geopolitical effects of land speculation as a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome.
